How to bring your best self to July 4th
Practical tips to show up with intentionality this weekend.

It's Independence Day. You're at another barbecue with the same people you see every year. The grill's smoking, someone's playlist is too loud, and the conversation is bouncing between cold plunges, tariffs, and who's got the best burger recipe.
Everyone's having a good time, but let's be honest you could sleepwalk through this day.
But what if you didn't? What if you actually showed up? If you’re interested, here are our tips for navigating the Fourth.
Talk About Something Real
Skip "How's work?" and ask something that matters:
"What's been going better than you expected this year?"
"What's been harder than you thought?"
Ask like you care about the answer. Then listen.
Don't Add to the Chaos
Every barbecue has drama. Someone's getting worked up about politics. Someone else is one-upping everyone's stories. At least one person will do something stupid with fireworks.
You don't have to match that energy. Stay steady. When you're calm, other people feel it too.
Be Funny Without Being Mean
Everyone loves the guy who makes people laugh. But make jokes that bring people together, not ones that tear them down. Laugh at yourself. Keep it light without being fake.
Say What You Mean
This might be the only time all year you're with these people. Don't waste it on autopilot conversations.
If you're glad to see someone, tell them. If someone's been doing something impressive, mention it. Most guys are terrible at this, which is exactly why it matters.
Make Someone's Day
Most holidays blend together. People remember the small moments when someone was actually paying attention when you talked.
Be present when someone's telling you something. Ask a follow-up question. Make one person feel like they matter.
The Point
You can flip burgers, crack jokes, and still bring some depth. You can be the guy who keeps things fun without keeping things shallow.
That's how you show up on July 4th. Bring the energy. Bring your best self.
